How you can achieve your goals through Mental Imagery.

Visualisation is the process of generating mental images or situations in your mind’s eye, this act can be a potent tool to accomplishing your goals. Research in neuroscience has revealed that when we utilise visualisation, we activate the pathways in the brain as if we were experiencing the scenario itself. This process increases motivation and makes the goal more attainable. Champion athletes have been using this method for years now. So what can visualisation do for you?

Increase motivation

By taking purposeful time to focus on yourself achieving your goal, by vividly constructing an image of yourself achieving it step by step, you tap into your minds reward system build and motivation to bring about the goal in your daily life.

Improve performance

By visualising yourself successful executing something you may think is a challenge, you improve your performance and prepare yourself for the task ahead. For example an athlete may visualise their-self executing a difficult move perfectly, a musician will vividly see them-self playing a challenging piece of music, or a employee may visualise a scenario where they give a presentation to a group of people in a calm and confident way. This process prepares the brain and body for success in real life.

Overcome challenges

By taking some time to actively visualise yourself overcoming a challenge or a setback, or navigating something difficult, you develop strategies and increase your confidence to handle the same and similar challenges when they arise in the future.

Promote relaxation

The process of visualisation is in itself a powerful tool to promote relaxation and reducing stress and anxiety. Our minds have a negativity bias, and left to themselves will tend to lean towards focusing on everything that can go wrong. So instead, make the choice to focus on a calming scenario or setting, breathe, and relax the mind and body to improve overall well-being.
