Mind Floss Hypnotherapy – Where Positive Change Begins

Hi, I’m Matt

I’m a qualified Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and the founder of Mind Floss Hypnotherapy.

I work with people who may be feeling anxious, stressed, stuck or held back by something they would like to change. That might mean building confidence, overcoming a fear or phobia, improving sleep, changing an unwanted habit, stopping smoking or simply feeling more like themselves again.

My approach is friendly, practical and focused on helping you move towards how you want things to be, rather than spending session after session analysing everything that has gone wrong.

I believe that people often have far more strengths, abilities and resources within them than they realise. Sometimes, when life becomes difficult, those resources can be harder to access. My role is to help you reconnect with them and begin making small, meaningful changes that can build into something much bigger.

A Supportive, Solution Focused Approach

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines elements of Solution Focused Brief Therapy, neuroscience-informed psychoeducation and hypnosis.

Rather than constantly returning to the problem, our sessions focus on what you would like to be different, what is already helping and the steps that can move you closer to where you want to be.

There is no expectation that you need to arrive knowing exactly what to do or having all the answers.

We work collaboratively, identifying achievable goals and noticing the positive changes that are already beginning to happen.

Hypnosis is then used as part of the session to encourage relaxation and focused attention, helping you consolidate the ideas and changes we have been working on.

Therapy Without Judgement

For many people, taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting.

You might be wondering whether your problem is “big enough”, whether you will know what to say or whether you will feel comfortable talking about it.

My aim is to make the process as relaxed and straightforward as possible.

You won’t be judged, pressured or expected to talk endlessly about difficult experiences. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is primarily concerned with helping you move forward.

Sessions are a space where you can slow things down, think differently and begin recognising what is already possible.

“We often create limitations for ourselves that do not need to exist, we create boundaries in our mind thinking that we are incapable of breaking them down. That is just not true, you can overcome pain and replace bad habits with good habits, it starts by retraining the mind.”

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that induces a state of deep relaxation and heightened awareness in order to resolve psychological or behavioural issues. Guided imagery and suggestion are some of the techniques used whilst in this state. In this state the unconscious mind becomes open to changing thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours. Hypnotherapy allows the mind to process unwanted emotional arousal, trauma, and self limiting beliefs.

What to expect:

During your hypnotherapy sessions, you can expect to:

  1. Be listened to and talk about why you are seeking help, formulate your goals, and focus on solutions and desired outcomes,
  2. Undergo an induction into hypnosis, you will be guided into a state that is relaxing, and calming where your subconscious mind becomes open to change.
  3. In this state you will remain aware and in control, but also be deeply relaxed and comfortable.
  4. You will become open to positive suggestions that help you move towards your goals and make the changes you are seeking. These learnings are embedded at a deep level and may be related to habits, behaviours, emotions, or patterns of thought.
  5. At the end of the session you will be guided back out of hypnosis, where you will feel relaxed, refreshed, positive, alert and fully awake.

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a form of treatment, often referred to as the talking cure. It helps to address a wide range of presenting issues. There are many forms of therapy available. The ultimate goal that all forms of therapy have in common is that they aim to help people overcome what is causing them pain, be it emotional, behavioural, or psychological. This leads to positive change, improvement in mental health, and well-being overall.

What to expect from SFBT:

Solution focused brief therapy supports the individual to identify their inner strengths and resources to develop solutions to problems. It avoids dwelling on the problem itself, and on the past. It focuses on the present and what the future will look like once the problem no longer exists.

During a typical SFBT session you will be encouraged to talk about your goals for the future, where you’re at now, and what needs to change to move you forward. You will be supported to recognise your existing strengths and resources, and formulate your own plan to achieve goals.

SFBT is usually quite brief, some clients reach their desired outcome in just a few sessions, but this depends on the needs of the individual.

SFBT is an empowering form of therapy that is often enjoyable and positive. It puts the client at the forefront and is person-centred.

What is Hypnosis like?

People often report feeling they are in a state of deep relaxation, or that they feel on the edge of being asleep and awake. Some report feeling physical sensations like tingling, or heaviness in the body. Some may feel they’re weightless, almost as if they are floating on air. Others may feel more alert and focused during the state. You are free to move about and make yourself more comfortable at any time, you are aware of what is happening around you, and have complete control.
